Iquitos is the capital of Loreto, the largest province of Peru and the heart of the Amazon rain forest. It is also the capital of the world of ayahuasca; thousands of visitors flock to this jungle city each year, in search of physical, mental and spiritual cleansing, healing and growth.

 

Ayahuasca is first and foremost a natural medicine. It is a brew, made from the ayahuasca vine, which means ‘vine of the soul’, in combination with other plants. The ayahuasca brew contains DMT and is a strong hallucinogen. The vine is considered a sacred plant and has been part of the indigenous culture for more than a thousand years. The plant is considered to have a living spirit, an intelligence with whom one can communicate.
